SUMMARY:Women's Wellness Day: Bless Your Heart
DESCRIPTION:The Women’s Ministry Team at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Wauwatosa is pleased to announce its fourth annual Women’s Wellness Day\, “Bless Your Heart\,” scheduled from 8 AM to noon on Saturday\, February 11\, 2012. The event\, designed for women of all ages\, will include opportunities for learning\, sharing\, moving\, praying\, and eating together— all ways that women can be good to their hearts. The morning will begin with a light\, heart-healthy breakfast and time to visit with other attendees. Following devotions\, Dr. Patricia Dolhun will present her keynote address\, “Heart Secrets.” A board certified obstetrician/gynecologist\, Dr. Dohlun is a member of Columbia St. Mary’s HeartSecrets Team\, a group approach to women’s heart health. On the team’s website\, Dr. Dohlun states\, “Women have a one-in-three chance of developing cardiovascular disease\, making it the number one cause of death for women in the United States. Wisconsin has the seventeenth highest number of women with cardiovascular disease in the nation.” Dr. Dohlun’s approach is to educate women so that they can make choices to improve their heart-health and\, consequently\, their lives. Graduating from the University of Wisconsin with a degree in Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1981\, Dr. Dohlun completed her residency at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Los Angeles in 1985. For over three decades she has been dedicated to improving women’s health. Women from St. Matthew’s will lead related break-out sessions\, including heart-healthy cooking demonstrations\, exercise opportunities\, spiritual practices\, and question/answer periods with a panel of dieticians\, who will also offer tips for adapting favorite recipes for a healthier diet. The morning will conclude with a tasty\, local lunch and a shower for the Women’s Retreat Room at the Repairers of the Breach Center. Executive Director MacCanon Brown and two guests of Repairers of the Breach Center will be on hand to receive the gifts for the new retreat room Women throughout the Greater Milwaukee area are invited to attend\, with a special welcome extended to women at St. Matthew’s partner parishes\, Cross and Reformation. Registration will be available at the church between services on January 22nd\, 29th\, and February 5th in the Commons\, at the church office during the week\, or via the church website\, www. stmattslutheran.org. The fee for this event is $10 with scholarships available. Child-care will be provided. For more information\, check the website\, or call the church office at (414) 774-0441. St. Matthew’s is located at 1615 Wauwatosa Avenue in Wauwatosa.
