SUMMARY:Campus Ministry Sunday
DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, April 29th has been designated as Campus Ministry Sunday in the Greater Milwaukee Synod in response to action taken at the last Synod Assembly.. It’s our way of spotlighting the work of our campus pastors\, student leaders and the many other involved students and individuals who support this vital ministry. In our annual report to Synod Assembly\, we asked “Will our faith have children?” As our campus ministries continue to grow\, we can answer\, “Yes\, by the grace of God!” You can help us spread the good news! Take a special offering to support Campus Ministry on Sunday\, April 29th. Invite a Campus Ministry student or board member to speak on Campus Ministry Sunday -- to a youth group\, an adult education group\, or for a ministry moment. Distribute the enclosed bulletin insert to your parishioners. Show the video of our local Campus Ministries in action (to be available for download from the Campus Ministry website). Encourage your young people (or bring your youth group) to visit one of our campus ministry sites\, so they can experience campus ministry before they go to college. Ask your college students who attend school elsewhere to join a Campus Ministry group. Call or email; whether they attend within or outside the Milwaukee area\, we can help connect college students with campus ministry. Keep campus ministry and our college students in prayer\, that\, through sustained spiritual support\, their faith may flourish and grow. Thank you for the ongoing spiritual and financial support you offer to this vital ministry in our synod. Our board and staff are dedicated to serving our college youth\, but we couldn’t do it without you! If you would like a speaker or presenter to visit your congregation on April 29th\, call or email Mary Lou Zuege\, LCM Board Chair\, at 414.962.6215 or lzuege@yahoo.com. Please download our bulletin inserts below.[wpfilebase tag=file path='campus-ministry/LCMBulletinInsert2012.pdf' /] [wpfilebase tag=file path='campus-ministry/LCMBulletinInsert2012grayscale.pdf' /]

SUMMARY:Glocal Mission Gathering - Milwaukee, WI
DESCRIPTION:Summary God's work in mission always propels us to encounter the neighbor\, particularly in the stranger. ELCA Glocal Mission Gatherings equip us for God's work in today's global and local realities as well as their "glocal" intersections. What is mission? Who is the neighbor? Let's consider these questions together as they relate to our migrating and immigrating world. Come\, join us for mission conversations around the realities of the world we live in today. Genesis 4.9: Then the Lord said to Cain\, 'where is your brother Abel?' He said\, 'I do not know; am I my brother's keeper?' SUMMARY:Pre-Gathering Training Event
DESCRIPTION:Over 600 youth and young adults will be traveling to New Orleans this July for the ELCA's National Youth Gathering. 154 youth and adults attended Invitation to Serve this January\, and got to know each other and what it means to Practice: Justice\, Discipleship\, and Peacemaking. 110 youth and adult leaders attended a February Pre-Gathering Training where they had a chance to get to know each other\, learn about discipleship\, and do some sensitivity training. Maybe you were not in these numbers. That is okay! You will have two more chances to network and train with other participants from our synod. The next training is Saturday\, April 28 from 2-5pm at Atonement in Racine. Youth and adult leaders will do the training separately. Youth will do a series of activities together. Adult leaders will receive training in how to facilitate a small group. We encourage all adults going to the Gathering to attend this training in order to make their time in New Orleans a richer experience for their youth. (We will video tape the training and make it available on-line for those who cannot attend but want training or a refresher on small group facilitation). The last Pre-Gathering event is Wednesday\, June 20 from 5-9pm at Christ the King in Delafield. We will spend the evening having fun\, getting to know each other\, and answering last-minute questions. We are asking each participant to contribute $5 upon arrival. From 5-7:30pm\, participants will have many options of outdoor fun to choose from. Then from 7:30-9pm\, we will worship together and the group will be commissioned and sent. We have an incredible guest joining us for this event: Agape! If you're not familiar with Agape\, you can find out more at www.hiphopoutreach.com. If you would like to promote these events with your youth and adult leaders\, we have provided some promotional materials for you: [wpfilebase tag=file path='Youth-Family/April28PreGathEvent.pdf' /] [wpfilebase tag=file path='June 20 Flyer.pdf' /]

SUMMARY:Consider the Conversation
DESCRIPTION:Motivated by their personal experiences with loss\, Mike Bernhagen\, Director of Community Engagement and Care Partner Relations at Rainbow Hospice Care of Jefferson\, WI\, and Terry Kaldhusdal\, an Oconomowoc\, WI teacher and filmmaker\, decided to join forces in early 2009 to begin a creative journey that has resulted in this hour-long film. Consider the Conversation sheds light on the 21st century American struggle with communication and preparation at the end-of-life. The film examines multiple experiences and perspectives on end-of-life care. The producers have three goals for this film: To change the current American attitude so that end-of-life can be seen as a normal process rich in opportunity for human development. To inspire dialogue between patient and doctor\, husband and wife\, parent and child\, minister and parishioner on end-of-life issues. To encourage medical professionals and faith leaders to take the lead in counseling others. Please join us for this thought provoking movie\, followed by an opportunity to ask questions and gather for light refreshments. 6:00 pm - Doors Open 7:00 pm - Movie Begins 8:00 pm - Q&A

The morning will conclude with a tasty\, local lunch and a shower for the Women’s Retreat Room at the Repairers of the Breach Center. Executive Director MacCanon Brown and two guests of Repairers of the Breach Center will be on hand to receive the gifts for the new retreat room Women throughout the Greater Milwaukee area are invited to attend\, with a special welcome extended to women at St. Matthew’s partner parishes\, Cross and Reformation. SUMMARY:Winter Symposium
DESCRIPTION:Winter Symposium Goals 1) to promote participation\, innovation and to empower congregational leaders. 2) to transform the cultural and spiritual landscape of GMS. 3) to equip pastors and lay leaders to address challenges and roadblocks to change in ministry. We hope that participants leave re-tooled\, refreshed and empowered to navigate the necessary changes in order that mission and vision may flourish. Keynote Speaker: Jason W. Coulter\, Ravenswood UCC\, Chicago Rev. Jason Coulter is Pastor of Ravenswood United Church of Christ\, a vital and progressive community of faith whose mission statement is “We Make God’s Love Visible!” Before entering the ministry\, Rev. Coulter worked for thirteen years as a union organizer with the Steelworkers Union and the Union of Needletrades\, Industrial and Textile Employees (UNITE!). During his time in the labor movement\, he helped thousands of workers organize unions\, including textile workers in North Carolina\, warehouse workers in Indianapolis\, and laundry workers in Chicago\, Detroit and Cleveland. Rev. Coulter has been pastor at Ravenswood UCC since 2006. He is a member of the Chicago Metropolitan Association (UCC) Justice and Witness Committee and a leader in social justice organizations such as Interfaith Worker Justice and Arise Chicago. Rev. Coulter also serves as Co-Chair of the Community Renewal Society Civic Action Network’s Strategy Team. Pastor Jason is a native of West Bend\, Wisconsin and a life-long member of the United Church of Christ. His interests include cooking\, baseball and spending time with his family at the beach near their home in Rogers Park. Some thoughts on church and the divine: "Church is more than a place to go on Sunday morning. At its best\, it is a community that lives and breathes with the seasons of life." "No theological concept is more important to me than grace. The grace that we receive from God and the grace that we extend to one another are like water\, we need them to survive." "The biggest question Jesus poses to us today is not\, 'are you born again' but 'what have you been born for?' I believe the best answer comes from the prophet Micah\, who said\, God requires that we\, 'Do justice\, love kindness and walk humbly with our God.'"
