Greetings Steward Leaders,
Most of you know about the new 2014 issue of Stories of Faith In Action, a free ELCA publication that is available to your congregations for the cost of shipping.
There is also another valuable stewardship publication called Giving:
Growing Joyful Stewards in Your Congregation. This annual periodical of the Ecumenical Stewardship Center is packed with resources to support stewardship in the local church. Articles explore the intersection of faith and giving, offer practical information on Christian stewardship for all generations, and critique a variety of resources.
“Fearless Generosity” is the theme for Giving 2014, based on Ephesians 3:20-21. Four other scripture passages are woven throughout the magazine articles—the creation account in the first chapters of Genesis, God’s instructions to the Israelites regarding jubilee and Sabbath rest in Leviticus 25, and the New Testament accounts of the parable of the sower and the widow’s temple gift of two copper coins—and into four subthemes of Fearless Living, Fearless Service, Fearless Sowing, and Fearless Giving.
Magazine articles provide opportunities for theological reflection on all four scripture passages, and many more share practical applications and ideas related to the various facets of generous giving and faithful stewardship for faith communities: annual giving, planned giving, financial campaigns, and special gifts.
Giving’s popular center section provides congregations with an easily-adaptable model for an annual stewardship emphasis, including a timeline and giving guide. This year’s theme encourages congregational participation through sharing personal testimonies about fearless generosity, and provides a sermon starter and congregational challenge for each weekly sub-theme.
I have just ordered one copy of the magazine for each our our Greater Milwaukee congregations. Please contact me if you’d like to pick up a copy. Additional copies are available for purchase from the Ecumenical Stewardship Center at $9.00+ each plus shipping.
God’s peace as you share with others God’s abundant love and grace in Jesus,
