Please join Holy Spokes and the Racine Family YMCA for a Spin-A-Thon to raise money for the National MS Society-Wisconsin Chapter in Memory of Rev. Walter Hermanns
The Racine Family YMCA and the “Holy Spokes!” bike team are partnering up for a fundraiser in memory of the late Rev. Walter Hermanns. Hermanns was a much-loved community leader and pastor in Racine until his passing this last December from complications stemming from Multiple Sclerosis.
Proceeds will support the fundraising goals of the team’s thirteen participants, who are riding for Hermanns and all families affected by MS in the Bike MS: Toyota Best Dam Bike Ride this August. The team is made up of his family and members of Holy Communion Lutheran Church in Racine where Hermanns was a pastor for over 20 years. The team will ride 100 miles over two days from Milwaukee to Madison.
Spinning is a term used for group indoor cycling using a special stationary cycle. Hermanns was an avid cyclist himself before he lost function in his legs. Even when he could no longer walk, he used a hand- powered cycle to get around town. Hermanns was also frequent user of both the Lakefront and Sealed Air branches of the Racine YMCA. He could often be seen there swimming, lifting weights, or just chatting with friends.
