Faith, Sexism, Justice: Conversations Toward a Social Statement
March 25, 2017 Gathering
Prince of Peace Lutheran Church
8:15 a.m. – 4 p.m.
In 2009, the Churchwide Assembly of the ELCA authorized a social statement process “on the topic of justice for women in church and society.” To shepherd and facilitate the process the ELCA Task Force on Women and Justice: One in Christ was formed. This summer the task force produced the study document “Faith, Sexism, Justice: Conversations toward a Social Statement.”
We invite you to join us for the March 25, 2017 gathering of leaders as we hear more about the social statement process, focus upon the study document, and explore strategies for creating space in our congregations for conversations that are spiritually enriching, engaging, respectful and well-balanced. Leading our discussion will be Rev. Viviane Thomas-Breitfeld, task force co-chair and another member of the team.
It is well understood that in our congregations it can be challenging to have conversations on these complex issues that are so close to our homes, congregations, and communities. The goal of the gathering is to give the participants an inside view of social statement planning process and quality time with task force leadership and each other to gain insights into how best to utilize the study resource in the congregations we serve.
