An Outdoor Ministry Internship: Engaging Millennials
At Crossway Camping Ministries, we decided that young adults who are interested in their call and their faith need to be invested in as an important ministry. After all, because millennials seek alternative ways to worship and serve, outdoor ministry and millennials would appear to be a great pair. As a result, the Servant Leader Internship Program came into fruition two years ago.
The program is a season of ministry training that offers young adults an opportunity to develop their leadership skills, grow in faith, gain valuable learning experiences, discern their call, serve others, and explore Lutheran Outdoor Ministry. Throughout the program, interns live in an intentional Christian community at Pine Lake Camp (Waupaca, WI) while serving in a variety of opportunities at the three sites of Crossways Camping Ministries and surrounding communities.
The program extends from September to May. Each month, interns engage in educationally enriching experiences, community-building, faith development, and service work. Guests teach on topics the interns are interested in, the interns work together on establishing and accomplishing personal and professional goals, mentors and interns meet to share spiritual and personal guidance, and faith formation is nurtured through devotions, articles, group prayer, and worship.
