Neighborhood Minister Job Description:

The Neighborhood Minister at All Peoples coordinates ministries which serve community residents and congregational members. The Neighborhood Minister coordinates volunteer roles throughout the congregation with partner churches and community organizations, bringing opportunity to build relationships. The Neighborhood Minister is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with community agencies and organizations and facilitating connections between individuals in need and available resources.  The Neighborhood Minister is also responsible for coordinating several annual events with the support of an extensive team of volunteers and staff as well as the weekly coordination of the Isaiah 55 Ministry, a weekly community meal (serving 35 – 40) and Bible Study followed by a food pantry (25 family units per week).  This part-time position pays $19,000 per year for an average of 20 hours per week.  Core hours include Mondays and Wednesdays, 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., and Tuesday, 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., to allow for attendance at weekly staff meetings and Isaiah 55 Ministry.  Working occasional weekend and evening hours for special events is also required.
Coordination of Isaiah 55 Ministry includes:
  • Solicitation and receipt of donated foods for the meal and the pantry
  • Preparation and service of the meal
  • Scheduling guest speakers
  • Occasionally leading Bible Study if the pastor is not available
  • Facilitating a dignified shopping experience for families in the pantry
  • Supervises kitchen staff for Wednesday meal
    Coordination of Annual Events:
  • Distribution of winter coats and accessories to 200-300 children and youth
  • Shoe Day (100-200 people sized and served)
  • Family Camp at Lutherdale (Good Friday overnight coordination of food and lodging)
  • Thanksgiving Praise Dinner Community Meal (all aspects)
  • Block Party (food and volunteers)
  • Christmas Food Baskets (25 families provided with Christmas Dinner ingredients)
  • Beloved Sisters Women’s Retreat (food and logistics)
  • Hold an annual educational event. One year the topic was breast cancer.  Another year, the topic was Anti-racism.
    Spiritual Care and Comfort:
    The Neighborhood Minister provides vital support to the Pastor in providing spiritual care and comfort for congregational and community members. The Neighborhood Minister encourages community members, working with many individuals in poverty as they navigate housing, family, AODA, domestic abuse and employment issues.
    The Neighborhood Minister position also includes other occasional duties as assigned by the pastor or the Council Chair in the absence of a pastor.
  • Experience in neighborhood ministry working with people living in poverty is preferred.
  • Post high school education related to management or human services preferred.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of all members and clients.
  • Ability to lift 30 pound boxes.
  • Ability to cook for a large group of people, on occasion, if cook is unavailable.
