Dear Hunger Justice ministries of the Greater Milwaukee Synod,

We have two pieces of good news to share!

1. Our colleagues at ELCA World Hunger have announced another round of Daily Bread Matching Grants. To refresh your memory, these Matching Grants of $500 were paired with access to an online fundraising platform which has the potential to exponentially grow the original $500 grant. The first round earlier this spring yielded fantastic results! Now, there are over 300 additional matching grants available for the whole ELCA, offered on a first-come, first-served basis. The actual application process for the ELCA World Hunger Daily Bread Matching Grants opens on October 1, 2020. Click here to learn more and apply.

2. We are excited to announce an innovative twist for those of us in the Greater Milwaukee Synod! Due to the generosity from within our synod from two of our congregations, we have partnered with ELCA World Hunger to self-fund up to 20 Daily Bread Matching Grants specifically for feeding ministries in the Greater Milwaukee Synod!

If you are a congregation with a feeding ministry and you are interested in taking advantage of this unique opportunity for Greater Milwaukee Synod congregations, we ask you to check and see…

  • If you already have an ELCA GrantMaker account, you can simply log into GrantMaker on October 1st to apply.
  • If you DO NOT have an ELCA GrantMaker account, please begin by setting up your account at ELCA GrantMaker (or paste this link into your browser: https://elca.fluxx.io/user_sessions/new). Once the account is created, you can then log in on October 1st to apply.

This will begin the process for your ministry to be considered for an ELCA World Hunger Daily Bread Matching Grant of $500.*

If you are interested in applying, please e-mail us so we can help shepherd your grant request through the system. Also, if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to us so we can accompany you on this journey.

Thank you for tirelessly working to share Christ’s love in tangible ways.

Until all are fed and can feed themselves,
Rev. Matthew Short (he, him, his) | Assistant to the Bishop for Evangelical Mission, Greater Milwaukee Synod
Cindy Dobberke (she, her, hers) | Greater Milwaukee Synod Hunger Team member

*The eligibility criteria for this grant is that the applicant must be a congregation with a feeding ministry and they must be prepared (or willing to learn how) to host an online fundraiser. This round we’re committed to expanding the reach of our grants by also giving priority consideration to congregations that are members of ELCA ethnic-specific and multi-cultural ministry.
