Dr. Martin Luther Church (DMLC) seeks an energetic music director to lead the music ministry. Piano/Organ abilities and knowledge of traditional and contemporary Christian music required.

Competitive compensation based on experience and qualifications,

Including paid vacation. This is a part-time position (estimated 20hrs/week), and does not include pension or health care benefits.

JOB DUTIES

  • Play piano/organ for weekly and special services
  • Recruit musical talent from within the church and community and provide opportunities for others to share their gifts and talents
  • Direct, accompany, and oversee music ensembles:
    • Festival Choir (for major Church observances)
    • Praise Band
    • Youth & Adult Hand Bell ensembles
  • Select congregational hymns/songs with the pastor and program special music offerings while keeping a blend of musical styles
  • Regularly collaborate and communicate with the Pastor, church staff, and church members (examples: Worship & Music Ministry meetings, monthly church newsletter article)
  • Manage the music ministry budget wisely to foster growth of the music library and involvement of special music within services
  • Arrange for occasional special musical production for children, youth or adults
  • Technical skills or background not required, but appreciated

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
  • Music background by education or experience and teaching ability sufficient to coach and guide all the members of the music ministry to continually enhance their musical skills
  • Familiarity with sacred traditional music as well as contemporary Christian music
  • Experience working with youth and adults
  • Technical background or skills appreciated, but not required
