Equipping the Saints Grants for Rostered Ministers & Candidates

The Equipping the Saints Mission Appeal is seeking to raise $2.3 million to invest in innovation, collaboration, and leadership. Even though we are still working to raise these funds, sufficient donations have been received to allow us to begin distributing funds. In January 2024, the synod council authorized the release of $64,000 for leadership grants to rostered ministers (of a total goal of $300,000) and $44,000 for leadership grants to rostered ministers and candidates who are members of the LGBTQIA+ and/or BIPOC communities (of a total goal of $200,000). Additional allocations will be made each January until all funds are distributed.
Here’s the language from the ETS prospectus: “In order to support our congregations with rostered ministers who are able to serve effectively, where God needs them and for as long as God needs them, we seek to raise funds for debt relief, continuing education and sabbaticals, and retirement planning. Leadership investment will include special attention to rostered ministers who are persons of color and/or LGBTQIA+, who may need help with costs of candidacy and tuition, and who face additional financial challenges in too often waiting longer for calls and/or serving in ministries with greater financial needs.”
Please complete the application form below to request funds prior to 11:59 pm, March 1, 2024. Grants will be issued in March, and the size of the award may be impacted by the number of applications received. In the event that demand is high, preference will be given to those that did not receive a grant in 2023. Please note that any grant sent directly to an individual will require the issuing of a 1099 form with the IRS, and there may be a tax liability incurred. We have included suggestions in some of the grant categories on ways to reduce or eliminate this tax liability, but we encourage all grant recipients to consult a tax adviser for additional information.
