Recurring Event Event Series: 2021 Together in Mission

Together in Mission is Going Virtual!

February 13, 20, 27, 2021

We don’t want to miss a chance to share this event with you so we’ve decided to make this a virtual event this year. We’ve spread the workshops out over 3 Saturday mornings in February and have some great offerings to share with you! You may choose to attend any combination of workshops and we especially hope you’ll join us for our opening worship on February 13 at 9:30 am.

Here are some important facts to know as you register:

  1. You can register only yourself or register multiple members from your congregation on one form!
  2. Fees are $10 per person or $25 per congregation.
  3. Each session will be recorded and available to paid attendees. If you did not attend and wish to have a recording of a session, you can register for $10 to receive the recording.
  4. Zoom links will remain the same each week. There will be one link for all the “A” sessions and another link for all the “B” sessions.
  5. We are asking that you note what sessions you think you will attend to help us prepare. You may change your mind at any time. There is no need to let us know this information after you register.
  6. Please note: Session A takes place later (beginning at 9:30 am) on February 13. On February 20 and 27 Session A begins at 8:45 am.

Saturday, February 13

  • Session A: 9:30 -10:15 – Worship & Welcome
  • Session B: 10:30-11:45 – Innovation: Learning from 2020, Leading in 2021
Join leaders from across the synod as we discuss what 2020 taught us, basic approaches for innovation that can be adapted for any context, and where God might be leading us as congregations in 2021. We will talk through specific tools and take time during the session to try out those tools with each other! Facilitator: the Rev. Matthew Short, the Rev. Carolyn Sellers-Rizzo, the Rev. • Session A: 8:45-10:15 – Practical Digital Worship and Ministry: Tools for Thriving in 2021 and Beyond
We are living in an exciting time that has catapulted many of us into digital ministry…and yet we might still feel unprepared. Come to learn some paths your congregation (LiveStream, Zoom, Pre-recorded, or Hybrid) can start today as well as some best practices for these digital tools for Worship and ministry. Bring your worship team (lay & clergy) and join us to learn about expanding worship into your digital space. Facilitators: David Anderson, the Rev. Kelly Nieman Anderson, the Rev. Jennifer Rose, the Rev. Matthew Rose.
  • Session B: 10:30-Noon – Exploring Conflict in the Life of the Congregation
Navigating conflict in the course of ministry is both a challenge and an opportunity. In this workshop we will explore our own experience with conflict and what it might reveal to us. What have you noticed when observing conflict handled well? What have you noticed when it wasn’t? What patterns emerge? What are the key areas of conflict you face right now in ministry and how might you engage it? This is an introductory discussion that will lead us into further exploration in the months to come. Facilitators: the Rev. Kristin Nielsen and the Rev. Jennifer Arnold.

  • Session A: 8:45-10:15 – Exploring the Journey for Racial Equity: Tools and Talk
As individuals and congregations, we are at different places on a journey toward becoming anti-racist. We will use a tool to look at and talk about our place in the Fear Zone, Learning Zone, or Growth Zone. We will then explore possible resources and tools for ourselves and our congregations to grow within a particular zone and beyond in our continuing journey toward racial equity. Facilitators: Dr. Joyce Caldwell and the Rev. Marilyn Miller, Leading for Racial Equity, LLC.

  • Session B: 10:30-Noon – Trauma and Ministry: Implications for 2021 and Beyond
    Trauma: Ourselves and our Congregations
2020 was a year of trauma—globally, nationally and individually.  Some of us have trauma in our history and that made this year particularly difficult.  Trauma is simply the experience of significant psychological distress following any terrible or life-threatening event. Trauma can be a one-time event, a prolonged event or a series of events. Trauma that affects a community, a country, or a church is called collective trauma.  This workshop will explore how trauma affects us individually and as a shared experience within our churches.Facilitator: the Rev. Debra Trakel, LCSW, is a psychotherapist with a trauma certification.  Ordained within the Episcopal Church , Pastor Debra has been serving for the last three years as a transition minister in the Greater Milwaukee Synod.
