This is a 2 part event which takes place on September 26 from 9-11 am and continues on September 28 from 6-8 pm.

The Opioid and Substance Abuse Crisis continues to rage, especially in the context of COVID 19. Overdoses, deaths, and addiction-related events are on the rise, giving even more urgency to the faith-based community’s response.

The Greater Milwaukee Synod of the ELCA has begun a partnership with “Faith Partners” to join faith leaders with prevention specialists, recovery support specialists, and other community stakeholders to identify and develop tailored readiness and recruitment strategies to engage clergy and congregational representatives to respond.

This workshop will focus on the big picture – a brief overview of the process to initiate, develop, and sustain congregational teams to become a fully mature ministry and service to the community.

Registration deadline is September 23, 2020

Workshop Description

The purpose of the readiness training is threefold: brief community stakeholders including community leaders, prevention specialists, recovery support service professionals, congregational and denominational leadership from all faith traditions on the Faith Partners model; describe this faith initiative project and possible partnerships; and, identify readiness tools and recruitment strategies to actively engage clergy and congregational representatives for these training opportunities. This virtual workshop is a time to see the big picture – the full process of initiating, developing, and sustaining congregational addiction teams to a fully mature institutionalized ministry and service to the community.
