All Peoples Church is excited to be hosting free collaborative workshops with artists and activists to explore creativity and justice. Their Kuumba workshops and concert is sponsored by the ELCA in celebration of the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation.
As part of its Reformation anniversary observance All Peoples Church of Milwaukee, Wisc., is partnering with a leading faith-based community organizing group and a religious art group to sponsor KUUMBA Gathering: A Festival of Creative Resistance and Reform on Saturday, November 5.
Kuumba has roots in the word “rumba,” which is Swahili for “creativity” and is the sixth principle of Kwanzaa. The rumba gathering is part training, part show-case, part revival. Just as the Reformation embraced the creativity of artists like Lucas Cranach, Matthias Grunewald and Johann Sebastian Bach, this event seeks the creativity in our midst. The event will engage youth and young adults in skill sharing and performance using art as a means of both expression and organizing.
