SUMMARY:2026 Fall Leadership Conference

Traditional and emerging paradigms struggle to speak to one another\, and a fresh conversation is waiting to be had. Delving into the discipleship roots of generosity\, we’ll explore the theological and practical ways that stewardship enlivens followers of Christ and the whole church\, and we’ll reimagine together how that can be lived out in the local congregation. \n  \nTim Brown is a pastor in the ELCA serving parishes in Chicago\, IL and Raleigh\, NC.  He currently serves in the Office of the Presiding Bishop as Director for Congregational Stewardship Support where he creates and curates relationships and resources to help Synods and Congregations fuel their ministries. He lives in Raleigh\, North Carolina with his wife and two sons\, and you can usually find him at a coffee shop or brewery reading or writing something he thinks is interesting. \n\n		  \nThe Presiding Bishop\, Yehiel Curry\, will be preaching at the opening worship of the Fall Leadership Conference this year. \n  \nThe Rev. Yehiel Curry is the presiding bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). Elected at the ELCA Churchwide Assembly in Phoenix\, Ariz.\, on July 30\, 2025\, Presiding Bishop Curry began this role on Oct. 1\, 2025. \n  \nPreviously\, he served as bishop of the ELCA Metropolitan Chicago Synod\, where he led a synod staff and 160 congregations by providing pastoral care\, preaching\, teaching\, administering sacraments\, and overseeing ordinations and installations. He was elected synod bishop in 2019 and reelected in spring 2025. During that time\, he chaired the ELCA Conference of Bishops\, fostering ecumenical relationships and theological engagement across the Lutheran communion. \n  \nPrior to his role as bishop of the Metropolitan Chicago Synod\, Presiding Bishop Curry served as the mission developer (2007–2012) and pastor (2013–2019) of Shekinah Chapel Lutheran Church in Riverdale\, Ill. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Lewis University in Romeoville\, Ill.\, and a Master of Divinity from the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago. He and his wife\, LaShonda\, are the proud parents of three daughters. \nAgenda\nMonday\, October 19 \n1:00 pm Registration Opens \n2:00 pm Welcome \n2:30 pm Session One: Stewardship as Discipleship (Personal Stewardship) \nHow do we regain an understanding of stewardship as something that is baked into following Jesus\, as a discipleship practice? How might we imagine this for ourselves\, and for our community? \n4:30 pm Free Time \n5:30 pm Dinner \n7:00 pm Worship and fellowship \n  \nTuesday\, October 20 \n8:00 am Breakfast \n8:45 am Morning Prayer \n9:00 am Session Two: Stewardship as Congregational Cohesion \nInviting our community members to grow as disciples of Christ is challenging\, but stewardship can be a lens through which communal life can be seen and understood differently. How can we inspire and inform our congregations to live more cruciformly? \n11:00 am Bishop’s time \n12:00 pm Lunch \n1:00 pm Free time \nThere will be limited opportunities to sign up for a one-on-one conversation with Tim Brown during this time. The sign up will be available at Lutherdale. \n3:00 pm Choose an option \n\nOpen Space Conversations\n\nTopics to be determined by participants \n\n\nBuilding a Legacy for the Future \n\n\nJoin GSB Fundraising for a brief introduction to legacy giving and discover how planned gifts can strengthen your congregation’s ministry for generations to come. This session will offer practical insights into helping members connect their faith\, values\, and generosity with the long-term sustainability of the congregation they love. \n5:30 pm Dinner \n6:30 pm Congregational Stewardship \n*Please note that this session is a repeat of the Session 2 morning workshop. The evening session is a hybrid option and you are encouraged to invite your council members and stewardship team to attend in person or via zoom. \n8:00 pm Bonfire and Fellowship  \n  \nWednesday\, October 21 \n8:00 am Breakfast \n9:00 am Session Three: Stewardship of Call \nJonah had a few calls on his life. So did Peter. So did Mary Magdalene. How do we navigate and steward the call(s) God has put before us as leaders in the church\, and how do we help others with this discernment? \n11:00 am Sending

SUMMARY:Racial Justice Training
DESCRIPTION:Racial Justice Training\nNovember 5\n@\n9:00 am\n–\n3:00 pm \n\nMount Carmel Lutheran Church – Milwaukee \n8424 W. Center Street \nMilwaukee\,\nWI\n53222\nUnited States\n+ Google Map \n\n414-771-1270 \n\n\n\nRegister Now\n \nThe synods of Region 5 (the synods in Illinois\, Iowa\, Wisconsin\, and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan) are collaborating to present annual boundaries education for active Rostered Ministers and Synod Authorized Ministers. Professional lay church staff are also welcome to attend. \nThe purpose of this collaboration is\, in part\, to show a shared commitment to boundaries education across the region\, to create and sustain professional ministry leadership in our synods\, for safety in our communities of faith\, and to pool our resources to offer high quality educational events. The collaborative boundaries education follows a three-year cycle covering Professional Boundaries\, Gender Justice\, and Racial Justice. This year’s focus is Racial Justice. \nParticipants are expected to be present for the entire event and to engage with the material presented as fully as they are able. \nPresenter: Rhonda Hill\, Race and Faith\nWe are thrilled to welcome Rhonda Hill as our facilitator. Rhonda Hill is the Founder and Executive Director of Race & Faith\, where she equips leaders and communities to engage race\, identity\, and justice through theological reflection\, racial identity development\, and embodied spiritual practice. She is the creator of the Race & Faith Quadrants which guides learners toward courageous\, embodied\, anti-racist discipleship rooted in the Imago Dei. Rhonda teaches nationally on anti-racism\, restorative leadership\, and faith-based community transformation. \nHer presentation\, “The Stories We Tell\,” will serve as the guiding framework for our time together. The day will include a live opening session with Rhonda Hill\, followed by pre-recorded video sessions for the remainder of the workshop. \nOur synod has had the privilege of learning from Rhonda Hill at past events. The material presented at the November 5 Boundaries Education is being created specifically for this event. While the material will build on the base of what you have learned previously\, it will also go both deeper and broader in looking at anti-racism education through the lens of myth-making and myth-busting\, both as individuals and within our congregational settings. \nTentative Agenda\n\n8:30 am – Registration\n9:00 am – Worship\n9:30 am –  Live Session with Rhonda Hill\n10:20 am –  Session 1\n11:30 am –  Session 2\n12:10 pm –  Lunch\n1:00 pm –  Wrap up Session 2/Begin Session 3\n1:40 pm –  Session 3\n2:40 pm –  Closing Ritual and Final Announcements\n3:00 pm – Depart
