The presence and impact of racism continues to devastate our communities within and outside of the church, harming the whole people of God and keeping us from living as the Beloved Community God intends. A new synod Anti-Racism Team is forming this spring to continue the work in this critical area of our ministry. The purpose of the team includes, but is not limited to:
Arranging for anti-racism training for rostered ministers, synod council and congregational leaders that fosters understanding of the reality of racism, its roots and its impact;
Accompanying congregations and groups as they move more deeply into development of anti-racism strategies; and
Serving as an accountability partner with synod council and synod staff in the ongoing work of transformation toward racial equity.
The team will consist of lay and rostered leaders from across the synod. If you are interested in being a part of the new team OR if you want to learn more, please indicate your interest via email to Synod Vice President Dr. Joyce Caldwell (jacaldwell@wi.rr.com), or Pr. Marilyn Miller (marilyn.millerm3@att.net). Our goal is to gather all who are interested for an initial meeting on Tuesday, May 3.
Thank you,
Dr. Joyce Caldwell and Pr. Marilyn Miller
