Bishop Erickson will be leading a trip to visit our partners in the Lutheran Synod of El Salvador, January 16-24, 2024. This visit will include opportunities to learn about the history and current dynamics in the country and in the church, as well as a chance to visit local congregations and leaders. Pastors and congregational leaders are invited to participate, whether their congregation has an existing partnership in El Salvador, or they are simply interested in learning about our siblings in Christ in this beautiful country. Those who have an existing partnership will be able to include a visit to their partner.

Trip Themes

  • How faith and social justice are intertwined in El Salvador’s recent history.
  • The inspiring work of the Salvadoran Lutheran Church as a church ministering to marginalized communities throughout the country.
  • How the Greater Milwaukee Synod has walked in partnership with the Salvadoran Lutheran Church as a companion synod and through sister church relationships.

Trip Highlights

  • Visits to sites of Salvadoran martyrs including archbishop Oscar Romero, Rutilio Grande, and the six Jesuit priests.
  • Worship in local Salvadoran Lutheran church communities
  • Visit with Medardo Gomez, bishop of the Salvadoran Lutheran Church and Nobel Peace Prize nominee.
  • Tours to El Salvador scenic sites – possibilities include volcanos, coffee farms, beaches, mountains, crater lakes and more.
