Inspired for Mission Zoom Gathering: “Remembering Why Church Matters”

May 28, 2024 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm CDT

Join our synod’s Mission Table for “Inspired for Mission,” a monthly virtual gatherings centered around inspiring stories of where God is leading our Church!

Our topic for May is “Remembering Why Church Matters.” We will be discussing as a group the recent article from The Atlantic entitled, “The True Cost of the Churchgoing Bust.” This article, written by a self-professed “agnostic,” will open up a rich conversation and remind us again why God has planted our churches where we are: To make sure more people have access to the life-changing love of Christ, in community.

Here’s a snippet of the article: “Digital life [can be] disembodied, asynchronous, shallow and solitary [while]…religious ritual is typically embodied, synchronous, deep and collective.”
NOTE: This article is only available on The Atlantic’s website behind a pay wall, so we will be reading it together at the start of the session.
Come be inspired together with people from across the synod!

Meeting ID: 893 2318 1586

Here’s how it works: We’ll start each Zoom gathering with an inspiring story about a topic related to the mission we share. Next, we’ll break into small groups for about 15 minutes to talk about what we heard (clergy and lay participants will have separate breakout rooms). We’ll then re-gather in the large group to share highlights and questions from our discussions.
