2024 Hispanic Heritage Month Message

Greetings brothers and sisters in Christ,

It is Hispanic Heritage Month. A month of celebration of Hispanic history and cultural traditions. Brilliant artistic contributions, popular gastronomy and beautiful traditions have enriched the origins and culture of the United States. A country formed by immigrants who throughout history in this country have contributed to the multicultural beauty that exists in many cities and in many congregations around the USA.

The Latino ministries that are part of the Synod want to take the opportunity to highlight the cultural contributions that our Latino ministries have made in our Lutheran communities here in the Greater Milwaukee Synod. Among the most popular traditions that we carry out are Las Posadas, Quinceañeras, Three Kings’ Day, Día de los Muertos, Day of the Virgin of Guadalupe, Las Alfombras, among others. God’s grace is revealed in various forms.

Many of you have probably been part of or heard about this type of celebration of these traditions. Recently, we learned that one of the pastors from our Synod was looking for help to carry out a Quinceañera Service in English in their congregation where there is no Latino ministry. As Latino ministries, we are pleased to hear that one of our traditions is beginning to transcend culturally into our Synod.

The celebration of traditions in Latino ministries is carried out in various ways. Each Latino ministry in our synod celebrates in different ways but always with the same purpose. If you wish to celebrate any of our traditions in your congregation, we can work with you as you plan celebrations to help with authenticity and consistency.

1 Corinthian 12:5-6: “There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.”
