Role Summary
The Music Director provides vision, leadership and coordination for Gethsemane’s music ministry. Partnering with the Pastor and Worship and Music Team, the Music Director will create meaningful worship experiences that glorify God and engage our welcoming, family-friendly congregation.

Key Roles and Responsibilities
1. Work in cooperation with the pastor and/or worship and music team to select meaningful and liturgically aligned music for Sunday services.
2. Serve as the primary musician and congregational accompanist for Sunday worship service which is a blend of traditional and contemporary music.
3. Provide music for seasonal liturgical services including Advent, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Lent, Holy Week and Easter. Be available for weddings, funerals and special events (ex, Live Nativity) as requested.
4. Lead music at St. Camillus’s community chapel every first and third Monday morning of the month.
5. Evaluate, recruit for and direct music groups which may include a vocal choir, bell choir, praise band, children’s choir and instrumentalists.
6. Nurture the musical and spiritual growth of volunteer musicians of varying skill levels.
7. Schedule and direct rehearsals for music groups and instrumentalists.
8. Communicate and work with the audio/visual team to enhance the sound of the music and music groups.
9. Oversee the tuning, maintenance and repair of the congregation’s music equipment.
10. Manage and stay within the music ministry budget.
11. Manage the music library and help ensure compliance with copyright and streaming services.
12. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
1. Bachelor’s degree in music, equivalent experience or relevant training in church music ministry.
2. 2+ years of experience leading music and choirs in a liturgical church setting is preferred.
3. Understanding of Lutheran theology, worship practices, hymns and the liturgical calendar is preferred.
4. Demonstrates high proficiency in playing the piano and vocal leadership for congregational and choral accompaniment.
5. Strong sight-reading and hymn-leading skills.
6. Possess strong organizational skills, a welcoming presence and a passion for engaging congregation volunteers.
7. Ability to work well with people of all ages and abilities.
8. Displays sound judgment, a positive attitude and professional conduct including the ability to maintain confidentiality.
