Outreach for Hope
Every day, Outreach for Hope (OFH)—a ministry of the Greater Milwaukee Synod, ELCA—helps ministries in low income communities live out Christ’s call to love and serve our neighbors.
Through the generosity of donors and volunteers, OFH provides critical funding and support for ministries that accompany individuals navigating poverty, incarceration, or isolation. Together, we help sustain 21 vital “Ministry Partners” across our synod, transforming communities with hope that is tangible and rooted in faith.
These ministries come to life in remarkable ways.
- At Breaking the Chains Church, a worshiping community inside Milwaukee’s correctional system, Pastor David Rebey sees people rediscover dignity and purpose as they prepare to re-enter society.
- At Hephatha Lutheran Church, children and families receive the support they need to become healthy and strong through food, tutoring, and advocacy.
- At Reformation Lutheran, youth are mentored in leadership and community service.
- Through Outreach for Hope support, the Share Our Best Furniture Ministry delivers beds, tables, and home goods to help families begin again.
- And this fall, more than 855 riders, runners, walkers, and volunteers joined the annual Ride Run Walk event, raising funds to keep this life-giving work moving forward. “I imagined our participants bringing hope,” said OFH Ride Run Walk Coordinator Penny Schwid, “what I did not imagine was how much hope they’d give to all of us!”
