Synod Mission Statement Feedback
Synod Mission Statement
We adopted a synod statement of our
Vision, Mission, Values, and Practices
at our 2019 synod assembly. At our recent synod council retreat, we reviewed this set of statements and identified two areas in which the language needed to be updated. We are inviting input and feedback on the proposed changes by
April 30
. The synod council will then review the feedback and make a final recommendation for consideration at our synod assembly, May 30-31.
Our Mission
Current:
We follow Jesus, form communities, love all.
Proposed:
Following Jesus, building the Beloved Community, together.
Comments on the proposed mission statement
Core Value - Courage
Current:
We believe that God is inviting us to explore new ways of being church, re-examining familiar structures, beliefs, and practices, that we might experience the rich and full life that God intends for all creation (Isaiah 42:5-9)
Proposed:
We believe that God grants us the courage to step outside of safe and familiar patterns to critically examine and work to eliminate the attitudes, behaviors, and beliefs that prevent us and all creation from living as God intends. (Micah 6:6-8)
Comments on core value - courage
Core Value - Compassion
Proposed:
We believe that Jesus' command to love God and our neighbors needs to guide everything we do as we
form
build
communities of grace, welcome, service and justice. (Luke 10:25-37)
Comments on core value - compassion
